PCDC and The Soapbox Kickoff Teen Club Arts Workshop
On Saturday, July 15, PCDC and The Soapbox hosted a cozy zine-making workshop for the PCDC Teen Club. Nicole Donnelly, artist and Soapbox member, gave the students a history of the medium and a chance to peruse zines created by political activists. Students then worked together to create a group zine, drawing their own pages and learning how to hand-sew the binding.
The PCDC Teen Club art workshop series is part of PCDC’s newly launched Chinatown Community Press, which aims to empower the Chinatown community with the technical skills to have their experiences and opinions heard. PCDC also works to provide a platform for Chinatown residents to leave an impact in Philadelphia’s historical and cultural records.
