For over 40 years, as the only active civic community organization, PCDC has brought the many complexities of Chinatown to the attention of city, state and federal agencies. PCDC has a history of building over 226 units of residential housing and over 24 units of commercial space, together with many other important achievements during the years.

Supported by the United Way Grant, PCDC launches The Family Support Service Program. The program helps low-income families meet basic needs by providing services such as Senior Assistance Programs, Home Energy Subsidies, Property Tax Assistance, and much more.

Launching of $1-A-Day Campaign,a partnership between the community and city which combines a street cleaning program with education and enforcement.

Chinatown’s first Night Market is held. A partnership with The Food Trust, Night Market is a roving street fair celebrating the city and Chinatown’s restaurants and dynamic neighborhood.

PA Commerce Department awarded funds to PCDC for a commercial corridor program, The Main Street Program. The program’s purpose is to enhance Chinatown’s image as a commercial and tourist attraction, improve the environment and quality of life for all visitors and residents of Chinatown, and promote economic development and diversity in our community.

Launching of Teen Club, a program serving low-income immigrant youth and challenges them to aspire towards excellence in life, become leaders and establish their own cultural identity. The program offers SAT prep classes and homework help four days a week with bilingual instructors, college visits, regular community service opportunities and weekly gym nights.
Chinatown Friendship Arch undergoes restoration. Artisans from Tianjin, China worked on repainting the arch back to its glory with vivid colors.
