Chinatown “Liberty Bell” Dedication Ceremony

 

 

Chinatown, Philadelphia – On Thursday May 14th, the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) and America250PA will host Chinatown’s “Liberty Bell” dedication ceremony to kick off America’s 250th birthday. Activities will be held at the 10th Street Plaza (10th and Vine Streets) from 4 – 4:30 PM.

 

Chinatown’s bell, called “It Takes a Village,” was created by artists Chenlin Cai and Xingzi Liang as part of the “Bells Across PA” initiative in partnership with America250PA, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and community partner PCDC. The Bells Across PA art series commemorates the 250th Anniversary of the U.S in 2026 by installing unique replica liberty bells in neighborhoods and towns across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Chinatown bell’s design celebrates the history of Chinatown, the ongoing contributions of immigrant communities to our nation’s history, and a nod to the Year of the Horse with a Tang Dynasty horse relief.

 

PCDC Executive Director John Chin said, “It is an honor to be invited by America250PA to collaborate on a bell capturing Chinatown’s history and story as part of the festivities leading up to the city celebrating the birth of our country.”

 

Local community leaders and representatives are expected to attend. After the ribbon cutting, light refreshments will be provided by local Chinatown businesses OneZo and Pho 20, accompanied by live cultural performances and a neighborhood hangout.
