City Government – New Sprinkler Requirements
Following the devastating 4-alarm President’s Day 2018 fire on the 200 block of Chestnut Street, the City of Philadelphia passed a new requirement for owners of attached mid-rise buildings to retrofit sprinklers in the basement and first floor. This bill aims to prevent future fire-related disasters in mixed-use structures. This “common-sense” fire safety measure is expected to reduce the losses suffered by property-owners, residents, and small businesses.
